We rate this Contender Shotgun as Excellent Finishwise, since less than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected by any contact evidence by our estimate photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Buttstock length of pull is 12 5/8 inches, youth length but original, and the butt pad has the warning about the 1933 NFA Act a person may not legally install a Contender Barrel on this receiver whose length is less than 16 inches. We are unclear as to whether any other brand tubes will fit this barrel. Barrel is 21 inch Vent Rib, 2 1/2 or 3 inch capability with interchangeable choke tube. Action type is breech lever single shot, and the trigger guard is the lever as with all Contenders. ![]() Finish, of course, is classic Thompson/Center semi-gloss blue with Cougar scene engraving on the receiver sides, and semi-gloss American walnut stock and forend. ![]() Its only surface detractions are a couple of tiny superficial scours on the pistol grip area of the buttstock, similar lighter scours on the forend, and faint amounts of whitening on the sides of the barrel from frame contact. This one has been sitting pretty in Alabama for two decades with minimal actual usage. From this one’s serial number, 348000 range, we estimate it was manufactured in 1989. Description: The Contender Carbine came on the market in 1986. ![]()
